What is a health insurance OEP & SEP?
/In the insurance world we often talk using a lot of acronyms. When applying for individual health insurance you may see OEP and SEP. OEP means open enrollment period, this is the one-time limited period per year that an individual can enroll in a health insurance plan or switch to a new carrier or plan. The open enrollment period typically starts in fall and lasts about six to eight weeks (check with your agent for official OEP dates). SEP is a special enrollment period. This is an enrollment time period for people due to a special circumstance (life event), getting married, having a baby, losing other health insurance coverage or moving out of the area. The SEP gives an individual 60 days from the qualifying life event to enroll in a health insurance plan.
